My Go-to Make-up Essentials

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Over the past year the majority of these products/tools get used and abused on a daily basis.

You know why that is? Because each and everyone is awesome.

I am a huge neutrals girl and like my makeup to look like natural, the base therefore is either my DrJarts+ BB or Armani Luminous Silk. I tend to wear my BB for work with a little concealer, which is either the famous Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection or Bobbi Brown’s Creamy concealer. Both do a stellar job in hiding all those unwanted dark circles or blemishes.

Then for blush I grab Bobbi Brown’s Pot Rouge, I’ve mentioned this product before, I wear Powder Pink but Melon is a beautiful alternative too. It is cream blush, I know it’s not for everyone but I like that dewy look and this has the dew-factor! Next, my go-to post would be lost without Hug Me by Mac. Thee perfect neutral lipstick, ’nuff said. For eyes, if I’m feeling particularly energetic/ have enough time I reach for my Bobbi Brown eye palette. I absolutely love this set, all wearable and very versatile. I tend to do a quick swoop over my lids but these colours are very buildable and you can achieve a decent smokey kardashian eye too.

My mascara loyalty lay with Maybellines The Falsies, I did a review recelntly-check this post out here. For the brows, it can only be HD Brow products, I have done a post, if your interested in having your eyebrows HD’ed here but if your not then you still have to try their brow line, they get a huge thumbs up for me, especially the palettes and pencils.

To chisel those cheek bones and add a bit of life to my very pale ski, my go-to bronzer has to be Nars Laguna, I know very cliche but nothing yet come up to scratch! Then FINALLY, again, if you haven’t already, go and get one of these stippling brushes by Real Techniques. Using circular motions I use this to buff in my base; you can really get right into the nooks and crannies. I also use this to pop my cream blusher on, works a treat! Totally versatile = happy Annie!

Why I Love Soap and Glory

20140109-132405

Partial to the odd luxury product-yes, but for ol’ day to day usage, Soap and Glory take righteous place. In a heavily dominated ‘big brand’ market, filled with generic shower gels and body lotions, I must say nothing really comes close; it’s well priced, smells amazing and their kitsch, witty phrased packaging hits all the right buttons. Whats great is that I managed to get my hands on The Yule Monty gift set. Call it a gift from me to me at the bargain price of £27! Any whoo, my bottom draw is now packed to the rafters and these beauty’s are going to last me the whole year.

A little secret, their Original Pink Formula 1 eau de parfum is a complete Miss Dior dupe.

The Forgotten Liner

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Lip liner is a truly forgotton gem. To be honest it does lay in my dresser all neglected and feeling sorry for itself. I would like to say I own a colour to match every lipstick but nope, I don’t, I just seem to own various shades of nude. Although liner has been tarnished by the nighties, used right it should serve a rightful place in everybody’s collection.

Top Tips

Small feathery strokes are key, you don’t want solid lines, unless thats the look your going for. Don’t go above your natural lip line, its not a food look, it looks obvious and unless your a pro makeup artist, don’t do it!

For a long lasting lip colour, lip pencil has the lasting power and I’ve seen pro artists use just a pencil for the entire lip. It looks amazing if you want a strong, matte lip and if you have the right colour it can look really effective; think oranges and reds!

Now I managed to grab this beauty for £2.00 in TKMaxx by New CID which is currently £16.00 on feelunique.com here. Another fab nude is MAC’s Spice and for a deep purple MAC’s Vino. Check out Vino in full force here.

Let’s Talk Lashes

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES
Before

Seen as though I updated you lovelies on my go-to mascara’s yesterday,I thought I’d best give you a run down on making the most of those peepers. Please excuse the lots of eye ball pics!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES
Shu Uemura curling, of course!

First step, if you haven’t already, GO GET SOME SHU UEMURA EYELASH CURLERS!! NOW! These are not just your regular eyelash curlers, they are ‘thee’ eyelash curler. They will change your life! So clamp them right at the root and lift your hand upwards as you clamp. This helps give that wide-awake look.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Then grab you mascara and place the brush right at the root and in a zig-zag motion work the mascara into the lashes, right to the tip. Start from outer to the inner corner of the eye, don’t forget those baby lashes!

If you want some serious separation, use a lash comb, a good one is by Ruby and Millie, or very carefully use some tweezers to pry the lashes that are clumped together. I like to layer coats for high impact, but for day to day lashes, a couple of layers does it! I usually use the tip of my brush on the bottom lashes; in a left-right motion across. You don’t want spider lashes, so you don’t need too much product, therefore leave the bottom ones until last.

When your happy with the layering and separating, clean up with a cotton bud or if your fancy, or have had a recent glossy box, use an eye makeup remover pen.

YSL Mascara

So your done! Gorgeous, fluttery eyelashes!YEY!

Now if you read my last post you’ll know I spoke about YSL and The Falsies mascaras. I thought I’d do one eye with the drug store and the other with the high end. I think the drug store looks the best! What do you think?

Lets Talk Mascara

20140109-132123.jpg
Lancome Extreme, Maybelline The Falsies, YSL Volume Effect Cils, L’Oreal Telescopic.

Lets talk mascara, right? I think us ladies are all on a voyage to find ‘The One’. Unfortunately, I am still searching and I think that search will never end. On the plus I have tried and tested insane amounts of mascara and what I can tell you, there is hope!

I have around five mascaras on rotation; usually a couple of high end and a couple of drug store. At the minute my top high end mascara’s are YSL Volume Effects Cils followed by Lancome L’Extreme.

I’ve long been a fan of YSL Volume Effects Cils mascara; its beautifully packaged and feels luxurious. You can really pile on the layers, so your lashes are left thick and  ultra plush. The down side, it dries fast; so no pump-pumpy action (that is the in and out pumping action=air in the tube=VERY DRY MASCARA!) and make sure you twist it tight when you’ve finished using it! Thats you told!

Lancome, lancome, lancome, how I loved your Hypnose mascara; I can’t say the same for L’Extreme. The instant lash drama just isn’t there and for £22.00, I expected more. My lashes were left limp, stubby and wet, something that you’d expect from a cheaper mascara.

Now as cheaper mascaras go, I’ve been juggling Maybellines ‘The Falsies and L’Oreals Telescopic. The Falsies made famous by Tanya Burr has lived up to the hype. I use this as my go-to mascara, its great for work but really build-able if you want high impact. A definite repurchase for 2014. As for Telescopic, made famous by Anna from Viviannadoesmakeup. Although Anna is a fave of mine, this mascara isn’t. It just didn’t work for me. It left my lashes really wet and straight, with no lift what-so-ever. The only positive; lash seperation.

Although I am impressed with what the beauty world is offering, I still feel that there is room for a stand out, AMAZING mascara. All I want is lift, volume, length, longevity, no flaking, no clumps and no drying out; is that too much to ask? hmmm maybe.

Until then, the crown goes to The Falsies, isn.

My make up encased!!

20140105-164758.jpg

So I have one of the best friends in the whole world and knowing me like the back of her hand, she bought me this amazing make-up portfolio from Laura Mercier. I’ve been wanting one of these cases for AGES. Its just  gorgeous! In metallic brown, it has individual zipper sections that attach by magnets, plus it has a section for brushes. YEY!

To make things even better it came with three products; a Refillable Custom Compact including two eye colour duets and cheek colour, Kohl Eye Pencil and Lip Glace.

The range of colours are reaaaally natural and wearable; I’ll get loads of wear out of all of these products and best yet you can take them from day to night, especially the eye shadows.

I can’t LOVE this more! YEY and YEY!

Check it out here and definitely purchase if your looking for really versatile products and luxurious make up case that will turn people green with envy.

Lots of love,

L.A.

Narcisco Rodriguez For Her

I love perfume, although, I do get bored and end up having a few on rotation, which is not so great for my bank balance but at least I smell nice 🙂

At the minute, these three have been my go to fragrances and I must say that I’m not getting bored of any. Through the day I wear a lot of English Pear and Freesia, it’s super fresh yet has a floral note with the freesia. The only downside is that it doesn’t last very long and for the hefty price, you’d think otherwise, so I end up carrying a mini decanter in my handbag; problem solved!

If I’m in the mood for something more deeper, more heavier, more night time-y, I grab Black Orchid by Tom Ford. This is AMAAAZE. I managed to grab this during the Debenhams pre -xmas fragrance sale, which meant it was a tad cheaper, but still, I could only afford 30mls!! Literally though, you need one squirt; it’s pretty heavy, last AGES and develops beautifully as the night goes on!

Finally, a newbie to my continuously extending collection is For Her by Narciso Rodriguez. I would say this  perfume that sits perfectly between Black Orchid and English Pear and Freesia; meaning not too light nor too heavy. This also wears beautifully and get lots of comments when I’m wearing it.  Now, when you first smell it, don’t be put off as it comes across quite floral, but trust me, it’s a complete grower and you’ll be glad you read this post telling you to give it a whirl!
